#1

A buddy has talked to me about wanting to sell his old computer and we aren’t sure what price to ask for it. This is his current part list with current prices taken from the internet:

$129.99 - AMD FX-8350
$276.99 - MSI gtx 970
$122.99 - Corsair vengeance ddr3 ram 16GB 2400mhz
$89.99 - atx amd 970 gaming mobo
$50.00 - WD Blue 1TB
$79.87 - EVGA 650W Gold fully modular PSU
$34.99 - Hyper 212 EVO
$54.99 - LG blue ray disc drive
$30.00 - ‘some 30 dollar shit case’

$869.81 - Total

These are all brand new prices. He has had the computer for about a year. Any tips or thoughts are very welcome! Thanks.

Realistically you’re looking at a $560 resell price. Complete systems are worth more because they are plug-and-play but in some scenarios like with AMD’s FX chips they’ve been on the market at such a low price for so long that it’s hard to ask anything close to retail for them. I’ve had luck selling FX series parts around $500 but anything higher and you get very few people willing to pay.

The key selling points of his PC are the GTX 970 and 16GB of RAM. Those are parts that offset the FX-8350’s less-than-stellar resell value.
