EA: Will Reach 1 Million Reddit Downvotes for Defending Microtransactions

I present, the most downvoted comment in Reddit history:

This was posted in response to outrage regarding how much unlocking new characters would cost (It’s about twice what you’d expect to pay for a very polished, new indie game). To be fair, you can earn enough points to unlock new characters… after about 40+ hours of gameplay.

The bottom line here is that EA makes way more money with the new business model of micro-transactions than they ever did when standard game sales. It is the future of AAA gaming. The gaming industry is larger than the film industry now. Even 15 years ago, things were very different, but things have changed. This is corporate gaming. Here’s another interesting fact:

So, they are the worst company in the USA, yet somehow we keep buying their shit. They can’t abuse us if we don’t let them. It’s time to walk away from this. It’s time to explore some niche games, indie games, and older games we may have missed (play one of the hundreds of games you spent money on and never touched). I’ll just let Dave finish this post… because I need a sandwich.

I haven’t bought any EA shit since SimCity’s release (that was a disappointment as well.) Since then I’ve stuck to mostly indie titles. I’ve been able to keep some people I know from buying their games.

Honestly EA is huge, we’ll need a pretty strong movement to even get them to reconsider their current decisions. I just know I won’t purchase their products anymore. Even moreso since they killed Maxis.

For all these things companies do poorly in the video game industry if people would have restraint and not buy things then things would change. I take stances against companies that tick me off but with EA and other video game publishers they don’t make me totally angry because I buy most of their stuff dirt cheap or used. Heck how many times do these companies give away free games btw? So they do some good for gamers out there. So if you want to complain about their practices stop supporting them. People say it is hard to do but it isn’t. You don’t need the nice new shiny as there are many games that get discounted in no time that still have large communities to play in. Also if you are on Steam sell your cards and items you get from playing TF2 once in awhile and during a Steam sale you can get something for free possibly. So blah blah blah about EA.

I really got my fingers crossed they don’t sell nearly as many copies as they wanted. The last few months have been retarded for stuff like this. Even 2K has said all future games going forwards will have micro transactions and they own a lot of game titles.

Fuck this shit. People need to start voting with thier wallets or the gaming industry will have a grim future.

Micro transactions arn’t inherently a bad thing. They need to be done correctly though; sadly, EA did not due their micro-transactions correctly in most peoples’ opinion.
